Interior painting in Dallas

Interior painting covers walls, ceilings, doors, and trim inside the house. The result depends on washing, sanding, caulk, and primer more than it depends on the color chip.

Interior painters in Dallas are hired for bedrooms, halls, kitchens, and the trim that yellowed next to them. PACIMP paints home interiors. Commercial buildings, property-wide turnover programs, and exterior work are not part of the offer. If you need the wall flat before it is colored, start with drywall repair or drywall installation and add paint to the same request.

A careful interior job is mostly preparation. The color is the last thin film. Dust, grease, and a skipped primer are why a new color peels in a kitchen or flashes over a patch.

Surfaces that can be in the scope

  • Walls and ceilings
  • Doors, casings, and baseboards
  • Built-in shelves that are already sound
  • Priming new drywall before color

Cabinets are a different process because of grease and the way doors are coated. That work is on the cabinet painting page and should be priced on its own, even when the kitchen walls are painted in the same week.

Problems paint will not hide

Nail pops, open tape, and dents show more after a fresh coat, especially in a sheen with any gloss. Water stains bleed through ordinary latex. Dark reds and deep blues can need more coats than the chip suggests. Those conditions belong in the estimate, not in a second trip that nobody priced.

Reference: a roller coat on a wall that has already been prepared.

Preparation, materials, and older houses

Rooms are emptied or the furniture is moved to the center and covered. Floors get protection. Hardware and outlet covers come off when they would force a cut-in line against a plate. Walls are washed where hands and cooking grease collect. Glossy trim is sanded so the new paint has a tooth. Gaps at casing get a paintable caulk. Cracks in the board get compound, not a brush of paint.

Coatings are ordinary architectural paints: a primer suited to the stain or the new drywall, then the finish sheen you choose. Flat and matte hide more on ceilings and low-traffic walls. A bit more sheen on trim and baths wipes clean more easily and shows defects more clearly. The sheen should be written down so “white” does not become three different products.

Houses built before 1978 may have lead-based paint. Sanding and scraping that paint is regulated. This finishing service does not include lead abatement or lead testing. If the home is old enough for that question, testing should be done by a qualified person before coatings are disturbed. The same caution applies to suspect textured ceilings and asbestos. Do not ask a paint scope to include hazardous-material removal.

How a room is painted

Protect and repair

Cover what stays, remove what can be removed, patch and caulk, then vacuum the dust before any primer.

Prime and cut in

Prime the surfaces that need it. Cut in ceilings and edges with a brush, then roll the fields while the cut line is still open.

Recoat and put back

Apply the coats the color actually needs. Reinstall covers after the paint is dry enough not to print. Walk the room in raking light before the job is called done.

Timing and the estimate

Drying between coats sets the pace. One small bedroom is not scheduled like a two-story stair hall. Color changes from a saturated wall to white take more material. Spraying is faster on trim only when the room can be masked well enough that overspray is not a new problem. Many occupied houses are brushed and rolled for that reason.

Send the room list, approximate ceiling height, and whether the walls are already repaired. Say if you want ceilings and trim or walls only. Interior house painting is priced from that list, not from a single “whole house” phrase.

Questions that affect the work

Do you paint exteriors?

No. Exterior siding, stucco, and trim are outside this scope. The work on this page stays inside the house.

What changes the cost of interior painting?

The number of rooms, ceiling height, the condition of the walls, color changes that need extra coats, trim and doors, repairs, and how much furniture must be moved. A price per room from a national average is not an estimate.

Is primer always required?

Fresh drywall, stains, and a large jump from a dark color to a light one need primer or a primer-sealer. Painting over a sound, similar color may not. The scope should say which surfaces are primed instead of treating primer as optional decoration.

Can painting start over a water stain or a crack?

A stain needs the leak stopped and a stain-blocking primer, or it will return. A crack or hole should be repaired first. Paint does not replace drywall repair.

How long before furniture can go back?

Latex paint on walls is often dry to a light touch in a few hours and still vulnerable to scuffs while it cures. The can states the recoat and cure times. Those times stretch in a closed, humid room.
